Many brands in China have introduced environmental protection packaging and replacement packaging, making positive progress towards sustainable development.
Many brands launch replacement
The appearance of replacement packaging not only saves a lot of material resources, but also brings consumers a certain price discount because it is more green and lightweight than bottle packaging.
In recent years, there have been many brands that adhere to sustainable development in China, and actively implement the concept of sustainable development in the development and application of replacement packaging, product packaging and empty bottle recycling. For example, Zhiben, a subsidiary of Shanghai Chengmu Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Sifu Li, a subsidiary of Shanghai Yuanwei Technology Co., Ltd., Daisy Sky, a subsidiary of Changsha Daixi Biotechnology Co., Ltd., and Dongbian Beast, a subsidiary of Shanghai Wanxiangheyi Cosmetics Co., Ltd., have all used environment-friendly packaging materials and introduced some replacement products.
Taking this as an example, there are three details based on environmental protection optimization in the replacement package (Te'an repair series, beauty relief repair series) launched in September 2021: pump head reuse, plastic reduction, and recycled tissue. Reuse of the pump head, that is, the replacement does not contain the pump head, and the use of the replacement core allows the least environmentally friendly pump head to be reused for many times; Plastic reduction, that is, compared with single-layer vacuum pump bottles, single piece replacement packaging saves at least 35%~86% of plastic consumption; Recycled face paper, that is, the face paper, core paper and lining paper used for the replacement of the outer box are made of 100% recycled materials.
Sifu Li uses replaceable face cream, and calls the replaceable bottle device "white medal". Gong Xue, founder of Sifu Li, said for example, "A single face cream can save about 55g of plastic, which is 50% of the weight of formal products. According to the annual production of 50000 single products, 2.75 tons of plastic can be saved a year, which is a very significant figure." Daisy Sky will introduce a replacement in 2020.
The Eastern Beast also integrated the recycling concept into the product creation, and proposed a more thorough solution from the perspective of the composition of the container function - the replacement core mode. The replacement core carrying the contents was used to minimize the materials, and the packaging could enter the recycling system. In terms of shell process, the standard process of household durable goods is adopted to provide the possibility of permanent recycling and reduce the environmental pressure caused by disposable skincare containers.
Make efforts to break through difficulties
Cosmetic raw materials need to be stored under the conditions of keeping the activity of ingredients away from light, vacuum, temperature control, etc., so the process of cosmetic replacement is often more complex, which puts forward higher requirements for the cost of replacement, package design, supply chain, etc.
The reality is that at present, there are few domestic suppliers that can provide a complete replacement scheme, and the mature scheme is also limited. Gong Xue said that because there are few brands to choose for replacement, there will be some problems in the actual use of replacement equipment developed by suppliers. For example, Sifu Li's risk control anti oxygen essence is replaced by a vacuum pump bottle, but the supplier provides the replacement core with a screw cap for shipment, and consumers need to unscrew the screw cap when replacing it. Considering the preservation conditions of the antioxidant activity in the raw materials, Sifu Li adjusted the scheme to add a pump head to the replacement core, and at the same time opened the mold to make the outer cover, so that when replacing, the entire inner core can be directly replaced, which not only reduces the loss of active ingredients, but also avoids the risk of pollution at the pump head during long-term use.

It is reported that due to the small number of domestic suppliers producing replacement equipment and their high requirements for technology and cost, brands often bear the pressure of reduced profit margins. As for the reason why the price of the replacement package is similar to that of the formal package, the relevant person in charge of our company said that the development cost of the replacement package is very high and the cycle is long. The R&D and production of the whole line involves not only the development of major components, but also the testing of sealing, tightness of bottle caps, torque and other aspects. Each test is very time-consuming and energy consuming.
In the process of all product development, Sifu Li will choose sustainable packaging materials as the first choice. At the same time, it will comprehensively judge whether it is suitable for production replacement based on the feasibility of product technology, supply chain and cost. Gong Xue explained: "Technically, we should consider sealing, stability, packaging material compatibility, light shielding requirements, etc.; the supply chain will consider the stability of supply capacity, technical maturity, etc.; and from the perspective of cost, it means that we should evaluate the gross profit rate control requirements, minimum order quantity and cost comparison with non replacement packaging materials. At present, more and more brands are considering replacement, and many suppliers are willing to develop new products We believe that with the efforts of all sectors, these problems will be solved. "
But at present, most domestic consumers prefer exquisite and complicated packaging. In this regard, Huang Lijun said: "Consumers instinctively think that packaging is equivalent to quality, but they ignore that behind the Huamei packaging, it is at the cost of over packaging and increasing the burden of nature." In other words, it is also a great challenge for the brand to improve consumers' acceptance of changing clothes.
